WPML
We use “The WordPress Multilingual Plugin” at wpml.org to manage translations.
Here’s a screenshot of it in action updating the Spanish translation of our “Autistic Burnout” piece.
You will need a wordpress.com account to use WPML on our website. Once you have an account, we will add you to our site as a translator. If you’d rather not use WPML or WordPress, you can send the translations via email and we’ll input them.
WPML Privacy Policy
Be warned that WPML sends content offsite.
Because of the service this plugin provides, it has to send your content off-site. Specifically, the Translation Management feature can:
- Send to wpml.org the names and emails of the site’s admin, Translation Managers, and translators.
- Send to wpml.org and its sub-domains content of the site, for the purpose of translating that content.
- Send to translation services, which the users select themselves, the content for translation.
It goes without saying that the data sent by Translation Management is sent in an automatic and secure manner and used exclusively for providing you the translation services. None of it is shared or used for any other purposes or shared with any third party besides the translators.
If you decide to use the Translation Management feature, the sending of this information is not optional, it is simply part of the service. Therefore, if you do not wish to share this information for translation purposes, you should not use the WPML Translation Management feature.
AI disclosure
We use WPML’s AI services to create first drafts of translated pages that humans can then edit and correct.
WPML uses the following translation engines to power automatic translation:
If as a translator you’d rather start from scratch instead of from an AI generated placeholder, we can accommodate that.
TRAPD
Someday, we want to have a TRAPD process for translating carefully worded stuff like the Monotropism Questionnaire in a way compliant with academic rigor.
T – Translation: two or more independent draft translations are produced;

R – Review: the translators and a reviewer compare the draft translations and decide the final translation;
A – Adjudication: an adjudicator (often, the reviewer) compares the reviewed translation with the Master Questionnaire and approves the translation for the pretest or for the fieldwork;
P – Pretest: in many countries, the adjudicated questionnaire is tested in a small-scale study. The translation is corrected by the feedback from the pretest;
D – Documentation: the whole process (draft translations, exchange of comments between the translators, the reviewer, and the adjudicator, feedback from the pretest, final translation) is documented.
