Why a Creed?
If you’re building a startup or any sort of organization, take a few moments to reflect on the qualities that the people you most enjoy working with embody and the user experience of new people joining your organization, from the offer letter to their first day.
Why Your Company Should Have a Creed
Inspiration
Our creed is inspired by previous creeds, manifestos, and values statements.
I will never stop learning. I won’t just work on things that are assigned to me. I know there’s no such thing as a status quo. I will build our business sustainably through passionate and loyal customers. I will never pass up an opportunity to help out a colleague, and I’ll remember the days before I knew everything. I am more motivated by impact than money, and I know that Open Source is one of the most powerful ideas of our generation. I will communicate as much as possible, because it’s the oxygen of a distributed company. I am in a marathon, not a sprint, and no matter how far away the goal is, the only way to get there is by putting one foot in front of another every day. Given time, there is no problem that’s insurmountable.
The Automattic Creed
We make things that help people, and we won’t make things that harm people. Our partners are vetted, and our solutions are research-driven and data informed. We validate assumptions and test frequently because in order to build the thing right, we first need to ensure we’re building the right thing. Ethics are baked into everything we do, from teaming decisions to accessible designs.
Our Work – Coforma
It starts by standing with the poor, listening to voices unheard, and recognizing potential where others see despair.
It demands investing as a means, not an end, daring to go where markets have failed and aid has fallen short. It makes capital work for us, not control us.
It thrives on moral imagination: the humility to see the world as it is, and the audacity to imagine the world as it could be. It’s having the ambition to learn at the edge, the wisdom to admit failure, and the courage to start again.
It requires patience and kindness, resilience and grit: a hard-edged hope. It’s leadership that rejects complacency, breaks through bureaucracy, and challenges corruption. Doing what’s right, not what’s easy.

GitLab Values | GitLab
Exhibit a ferocious and intelligently applied work ethic directed toward continual improvement.
Demonstrate respect for each person in the organization and the work he or she does.
Be deeply committed to learning and teaching which means increasing our own expertise.
Be fair.
Demonstrate character.
Honor the direct connection between details and improvement.
Relentlessly seek improvement.
Show self control especially when it counts most—under pressure.
Demonstrate and prize loyalty.
Use positive language and have a positive attitude.
Take pride in my effort as an entity separate from the results of that effort.
Deal appropriately with victory and defeat, adulation and humiliation.
Promote internal communication that is both open and substantive (especially under stress).
Seek poise in myself and those I lead.
The leader must exhibit the principles, code of conduct, and behavior that he is asking others to emulate.
The Walsh Standard
Remember Our Center
I center the marginalized and the different. I center edge cases, because edge cases are stress cases and design is tested at the edges. I center neurodivergent and disabled experience in service to all bodyminds.
Raise your hand if you’re not from a mold (yeah me) Varied strings are worth more than gold Mah-ah-ah-ah-ahl function away Mah-ah-ah-ah-ahl function away Malfunction! Malfunction! Malfunction! ... Their Malfunction isn’t us, it’s all the clamor and the fuss
I’m about to pick you up get you back up on your feet you don’t need to worry love Even if we’re incomplete Come on baby open up Pull out the wires and trim the fluff Be yourself sounds so cliche But hey let's do it anyway

Let’s organize our lives around love and care.

Mission
We exist for the direct support and mutual aid of neurodivergent and disabled people.
We serve our loved people so we can keep on living through the onslaught.

Creed
I center the marginalized and the different. I center edge cases, because edge cases are stress cases and design is tested at the edges. I center neurodivergent and disabled experience in service to all bodyminds.

Covenant
We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community.

Philosophy
We steer by these acquired phrases. They are compasses and stars that align us on our mission.

Interdependence
It is time to celebrate our interdependence. Interdependence acknowledges that our survival is bound up together, that we are interconnected and what you do impacts others. Interdependence is the only way out of most of the most pressing issues we face today.

Edges
Our designs, our societies, and the boundaries of our compassion are tested at the edges, where the truths told are of bias, inequality, injustice, and thoughtlessness.
Let's organize our lives around love and care Let's write each other letters and call it prayer Let's congregate in the place that isn't anywhere At the temple of broken dreams
