Relational pattern languages are simple, repeatable ways of describing how people connect, collaborate, and belong in shared environments.

They name the recurring social and spatial patterns that support human interaction, such as:

  • solitude and refuge
  • small-group learning
  • casual community gathering
  • rhythmic entry, exit, and return

In Cavendish Space, relational pattern languages help us design for real nervous systems by recognizing that relationships and collaboration happen in different modes and at different paces — not through one constant, enforced norm.
